A fluorescent tube is a type of gas discharge lamp which is known to be more efficient than a typical light bulb. Few people know that by 1951, fluorescent lamps were producing more electricity than incandescent lamps. The fluorescent tube is filled with gases containing three or more chemical elements. Nowadays, most fluorescent light fixtures contain tubes rather than a distinctive round shape bulb. These tubes vary in length from 100 millimeters to over eight ft long. It is not uncommon to find fluorescent tubes in all types of different shapes. For compact areas, U shape tube, circular tubes and spiral tubes are used for specific architectural purpose. This configuration makes it easier for fluorescent tubes to emit stronger light in an enclosed space.

 

 

Fluorescent tubes are different from a typical light bulb therefore requiring ballast and a circuit to start and operate the tubes. Long fluorescent tubes are in great demand all over the world because longer tubes are suitable for higher voltage required to operate fluorescent tubes. Typically, a fluorescent tube consists of a tube, a round shaped starter, a bimetallic thermostat switch, a capacitor, filaments, ballast and a power source. The lifespan of fluorescent tube is 10 to 20 times longer than a typical incandescent lamp and can easily be detected by signs of dimmer light, constant flickering and flashing.
